Mallorca Points of interest / Sightseeing and excursions
There aren’t any secret places left on the island. With about 9 Million tourists per year coming to beautiful Majorca and all those „Insider“ giving away their special tipps … we just don’t have any secrets left.
But, we do have all those precious places known as “The Classics”. If you haven’t seen them, then you haven’t been on Majorca! And we can reassure you: everyone will find her/ his personal favourite spot on the island.
Some of those „Classics“ are:
- the cathedral „la Seu“ in Palma, Belver castle overlooking the capital and the Bay of Palma, „paseo Maritimo“ the harbour promenade, the old towncenter including the “Arabian Bathhouse”, the shopping district around “plaça Major” and the restaurants and bars in the “Santa Catalina
- nestled within two mountains lies Alarò, a pitoresque village with an inviting village square surrounded by restaurants and bars. Up on one of the mountains overlooking the village, you find the old castle of Alarò, “Castillo de Alarò”. Don’t go up in the midst of the summer heat and always care about wearing good shoes ;-)
- Valldemossa with it’s Chartreuse estate and Chopin museum is definitely a „must see“
- known for its art galleries and pitoreque charme is Deia, situated between Valldemossa and Soller
- the mountain village of Soller comes with a beautiful church and narrowl and winding streets. Don’t miss out that wonderful homemade icecream „fet a Soller“ – it is sold right at the fabric across from the market building.
- „Sa Calobra“ the world famous Bay on the Westcoast where you can also find the „Torrente de Parreis“ canyon and stone beach.
- “Son Marroig” former estate of the Duke Luis Salvador and the adjoining Cape “Na Forradada”
- Cape Formentor, the” Nothernmost Point” on the island
- The long and sandy “family”beaches next to Puerto Pollença, Puerto Alcudia and Can Picafort.
- the „Ermita de Betlem“, an old eremit chapel overlooking the small village of Betlem and the Bay of Alcudia.
- „Es Trenc“, one of the most beautiful beaches on the South coast of the island
- the “Randa” monastary next to Llucmajor
- the prehistoric settlement ruin on Cabo Blanco
... and there is much much more to see
What to see with children:
- beginning of June the new Aquarium next to “Sometimes”/ Playa de Palma opens its doors to the public
- with „Sa Riera“ situated on the “Calle Jesus” Palma’s got a new town park with a lot of play space, a kids castle with a slide tower
- “Natura Parque” next to Santa Eugenia
- “Sa Reserva” adjoining to the Puig Galatzo ( duringthe summer bring your bathing suits as they allow to bathe in the ponds and cascades) A nature Park with a large barbeque area
- S’Albufera, within the North and next to the „Playa de Muro“ is a large nature reserve you can visit by bike or simply walk through
“Safari Park“ in Sa Coma, where you can drive through in your own car and see the wild animals „close-up“. Take care when the apes come running… |
