Bicycle and motorbike information for Majorca
Getting around on Majorca on 2 wheels isn't that easy as it might seem. It's not just “get going”. Thousands of bicycle enthusiasts, every year, choose our beautiful island for pratise or just leisure tours on 2 wheels. Experience shows that unnecessarily often it comes to conflict situations with the “4 wheeler” - lamentably resulting in accidents with even several mortal victims every year. Getting around with some respect for each other could be so easy, but some bicylcle enthusiasts don't get the point and especially when the large and well known bicycle teams visit our island in early spring time, car drivers can encounter some of the following dangerous situations:
- Regrettably some cyclists, mostly when within a large group, do not respect the signs to drive in row ... one after another, as traffic signs and rules indicates within most regions due to small and winding roads, but the drive 2 or even 3 aside of each other, impending to be easily and safely overtaken by a car. For a car driver, mostly only patience can help.
- Please, be prepared that Roundabouts are most dangerous places to bump into a large group of cyclists, as they often tend to ignore traffic rules and without reducing speed or giving way just push through these roundabouts. This is a traffic offend, but nevertheless be prepared for such a dangerous situation.
- Groups of cyclists mostly try to find the shortest way between A & B. Regrettably they often do not respect waysigns and One Way streets. Be prepared to encounter cyclists driving up a One Way street the wrong way within villages and towns.
Some cyclists may feel offended by my above lines. I have no intention to throw mud at anyone. The most important we can do is respect traffic rules and respect each others right of getting home unharmed.Drive safe everyone ;-)
